Miscarriage

Unfortunately, not all pregnancies are successful. About one in ten women will experience a miscarriage. Most miscarriages happen within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Sometimes they start with bleeding and sometimes we discover the pregnancy is not viable during an ultrasound.

We have been trained to provide you with the very best guidance and support, irrespective of how your pregnancy progresses. We would be happy to schedule extra appointments if necessary.

Most miscarriages can’t be prevented. In most cases, something goes wrong early on in the pregnancy, causing the foetus to stop growing. However, we do know that certain substances can increase the risk of miscarriage, such as alcohol, smoking, and certain medications.

Sometimes a miscarriage progresses naturally with cramps and vaginal bleeding. If this doesn’t happen, you can choose to take tablets or undergo a D&C, a medical procedure to empty the uterus.

If the pregnancy is not viable

If your pregnancy is not viable, we will be there to support you through this difficult process. If you would like help preparing for and processing your loss, we can put you in touch with Siriz, an organization that specializes in grief processing and farewell ceremonies.

Nothing is more poignant than birth and death, the beginning and end of life. If a child dies before birth, during birth, or shortly after birth, these two moments coincide. The same is true if a pregnancy is terminated due to a serious genetic anomaly.

The loss of a child is the most profound and unspeakable kind of loss, whether it happens during pregnancy or after birth. All future plans and expectations suddenly change. We are here for you during this incredibly difficult time

Given the profound sadness of losing a pregnancy or a child, we have undergone additional training over the years to provide you with the support you need and deserve during this period. Your needs always come first.
